Volunteer
We actively encourage volunteers to join our team here at Westbury Leigh C of E, because we know that they bring with them a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience that can enhance the learning opportunities of our children.
If you're already a parent / carer of a pupil at Westbury Leigh C of E Primary School, a Governor or a Staff member then you're already a member of our fantastic community!
But there's always an opportunity to be more involved or if you’re a new friend to us to join our community - We need you!
“The school is part of your community and the stronger the school, the stronger the community.”
Is volunteering for me?
Volunteering can be for everyone, any age and background. We are looking for volunteers in a wide variety of roles. Our volunteers may choose to come in weekly, monthly or even on an ad hoc basis to help with a particular project.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a specific skill, part of the fun of volunteering is learning how to do new things!
Our Volunteers include:
- Members of the Governing body
- Parents/ carers/ grandparents of pupils
- Ex-pupils
- Students on work experience
- University students referred to us by Student Volunteer Services
- Local residents
- Friends of the school
Ways to be involved:
- Listening to children read in class
- Gardening / maintaining vegetable patches
- Administrative support in the office
- Helping to fundraise for the school
- And many more!
What we can offer our volunteers?
As a school community we value the work our volunteers do at school. Volunteers are vital in driving our school forward, improving our standards and broadening our expertise.
We aim to offer our volunteers:
- Training to undertake the role
- DBS check
- Induction to the school
- Regular meetings to provide support
- Experience in working in a school environment
- Record of volunteering
- Recognition for the work undertaken
- References if required

I`m interested in becoming a volunteer, what happens next?
If you're interested in taking things further as a volunteer thats great news and we'd love to hear from you!
We ask in the first instance that you contact the school office by either calling 01373 822230, emailing us at admin@westburyleigh.wilts.sch.uk. Or popping in to speak to us. Our admin team will then be able to take details from you to see where your interests are and what your skill set is, so that we can appropriately allocate you to the right volunteering opportunity.
We'll then arrange to invite you in for for an induction session, where you'll be shown around the school, meet the team, and be given a volunteer induction handbook. Before you can work in a school, you'll also need to have a police background check. If you don't already have one we'll complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. It's a standard procedure carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks in England and Wales and by Disclosure Scotland in Scotland. The check usually takes 4-6 weeks. Once you recieve you're DBS certificate you'llbe good to go!
In the meantime, we look forward to hearing from you!
Please note that at Westbury Leigh C of E Primary School we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils in our care. We make sure that all members and volunteers complete a DBS (Disclosure Barring Services) certification before working with our children.
